Acetylene

C₂H₂

Acetylene is one of the important raw materials for organic synthesis. It is also a monomer for synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers and plastics, and is also used for oxyacetylene welding and cutting.

Pure acetylene is a flammable and toxic gas with a colorless, aromatic odor. The melting point (118.656kPa) is -80.8°C, the boiling point is -84°C, and the relative density is 0.6208 (-82/4°C). Acetylene is active and can undergo addition and polymerization reactions. It can burn at high temperature (3500 ° C) and strong light in oxygen.

Application

Scientific Research
Scientific Research
Acetylene is used with high purity synthetic air or nitrous oxide as a fuel for the flame in atomic absorption flame spectroscopy. This is used in water, soil, food and biological research laboratories where sensitivity and accuracy of results are important.
Industrial
Industrial
Acetylene is most commonly used in combination with oxygen for cutting or welding materials such as mild steel, where the standard industrial grade is sufficient. Acetylene with low phosphine levels is required for lead brazing or welding.
Social Responsibility
Plants
Acetylene is used in the cultivation of plant; it improves the forming of new flowers.
Energy
Energy
Acetylene is used as a component in calibration gases for the gas, oil as well as chemical industry.
Semiconductors
Semiconductor Manufacturing
Used in the preparation of carbon hard mask films for integrated circuit production, particularly in plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) processes. Acetylene forms a stable amorphous carbon layer on silicon surfaces, serving as a reliable carbon hard mask in photolithography processes.
Display Panel Manufacturing
Display Panel Manufacturing
Applied in chemical vapor deposition and etching processes during the production of TFT-LCD and OLED panels. As a key precursor for the preparation of amorphous silicon layers and insulating protective films, high-purity acetylene directly impacts the performance and stability of thin-film transistors.
Scientific Analytical Instruments
Scientific Analytical Instruments
Widely used as a fuel source in analytical instruments such as atomic absorption spectrometers. In high-precision elemental analysis, the purity of acetylene directly affects the accuracy and reproducibility of analytical results.
Rare Metal Smelting and Metal Processing
Rare Metal Smelting and Metal Processing
Utilized in high-temperature cutting and welding processes, making it an ideal heat source for processing rare metals such as tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, and niobium. Electronic grade acetylene also plays an important role in surface treatment and heat treatment of high-performance metallic materials.

FAQs

Although 4N electronic grade acetylene has a much higher purity than industrial acetylene, its fundamental hazardous characteristics remain unchanged. It is still a highly flammable and explosive gas, with an explosion limit in air of 2.3%–72.3% (by volume). Therefore, strict adherence to operating procedures for flammable and explosive gases is required during use, including explosion-proof, fire-prevention, and anti-static measures. All products provided by Jinhong Gas are accompanied by detailed Safety Data Sheets (SDS), which must be carefully read before use.

To ensure that product purity is not compromised, it is recommended to use a dedicated electronic specialty gas delivery system, including ultra-clean pipelines, specialized pressure regulators, and flow controllers. The operating environment should be kept clean, avoiding the introduction of contaminants such as dust and oil. Operators must receive professional training and be familiar with the properties and handling procedures of electronic specialty gases.

During transportation, cylinders should be protected from strong vibration and high temperatures. They must be stored in a cool, well-ventilated location, away from heat sources, open flames, flammable materials, and oxidizers. The storage area should also be equipped with appropriate emergency leak-handling equipment.
